Yom Teruah
“And on that day a great shofar will be sounded”
This project was created to help religiously observant people the impending lock-down in Israel scheduled during the High Holidays. The lock-down includes a ban on gatherings, making it impossible for people to fully fulfill their religious obligations.
Yom Teruah is part of a holistic preparation for the holidays many educational institutions, welfare associations, and other organizations are trying to accomplish.
How does it work?
Hilma: Social Tech for Impact
Created an easy to use location-based platform, enabling those in isolation to connect with a local Ba’al Tokei’ah.
People who need to hear Shofar:
Enters their name and address. The app then sends a request to the Ba;al Tokei'ah in their area.
The Ba’al Tokei’ah:
Registers for the system by entering all his information like location and hours. He then can receive information about the people in isolation who have requested his services. He can respond according to location and free hours.
Around the Clock Support
The system is accompanied by a support center that helps someone in isolation locate a Ba’al Tokei’ah in the event that one is not found through the system.
At the end of the process, the one in isolation will receive a message that a Ba’al Tokei’ah has been found for him.
After a match is found, a reminder will be sent to the one in isolation either via email, Whatsapp, or SMS.
Throughout the High Holiday season, citizens will be able to locate public Shofar-blowing sites where they will be able to hear the shofar, request assistance in hearing the shofar, and assist in holding the shofar-blowing events.
This project is led by the Hilma Company, the Amit Network, and the Union of Batei Knesset and Srugim.
The start of registration for this platform is set for the first of Elul. The campaign will be publicized in digital media, radio, and newspapers throughout the month.
